Terry A. Kirkpatrick is an author, humorist and editorial executive. He began his career with The Associated Press in New Orleans and was soon transferred to the business news desk in New York, where he covered Wall Street and the energy industry. Two years later he was promoted to AP Newsfeatures, an elite group of The AP’s top writers. His stories appeared in leading newspapers around the world.
In 1981 Terry joined The Reader’s Digest, and over 16 years he rose to the position of Managing Editor, in which he oversaw the creation of the magazine’s issues. As the executive in charge of the U.S. edition, he was a member of the U.S. Management Committee. He wrote the monthly editor’s column, and he frequently spoke to advertisers about the magazine’s editorial mission. He was known for his humorous after-dinner speeches.
In 1997 Terry joined IBM as an editor of a thought leadership journal for CEOs, for which he launched an award-winning website. He also created an internal website for the company’s 120,00 scientists and technologists. In subsequent years Terry was editorial director Peppers and Rogers Group, a leading marketing consulting firm, for which he launched a thought leadership journal. He was deputy editor of CIO Insight magazine and editor in chief of a technology management consulting firm.
Terry has worked with executives and consultants and McKinsey, Booz Allen, IBM, Gartner and other leading firms on books and articles. He is the co-author of Sustained Innovation and a contributor to and editor of several business books. He is working on a compilation of his humor columns and is an active blogger. Terry lives in Ridgefield, Connecticut.
